DC Cherry Blossom Family Session
I met this sweet family for cherry blossom portraits this Spring at the Tidal Basin in Washington, DC. They are friends of our friends, Heather + Eric (you’ve seen them on this blog before!) and were referred by them to me.
Hillary explained in our first correspondence that the cherry blossoms were really special to their family. She has family living in Japan and has visited when the Tokyo cherry blossoms were in peak bloom. Their family also recently moved to DC with the Navy, so they wanted to be sure to document their time living in the Nation’s Capital, as well as capture the super fun age of their twins!
On the afternoon we met, we had a beautiful mild day and the best golden light. It must have rained really hard just days before because the water was so high it was overflowing onto the path in many spots! The trees were a bit past peak, but we were still able to get some really good color in our shots. I really love the shades of red, brown and orange we were able to get because of it!
Eighteen months is one of my favorite ages to document, and it is also one of the most challenging. (…the possibility of those little legs running straight off the path into the water at any point!). I mean, just look at those sweet faces and the pink pants! We had so much fun running around taking candids in the trees. We saw ducks, we found some loose blossoms to play with and even saw a helicopter like their dad flies.
Please enjoy some favorite photos from our session. Such a gorgeous family and such beautiful light – it was a pleasure and one of my favorite sessions to date!
