Heather & Tucker got married on May 4th in a beautiful outdoor garden-style wedding at the Cylburn Arboretum in Baltimore, Maryland.
I met Tucker & Heather through my sister, Rachel. We all went to James Madison University, they were freshmen when I was a senior, and Rachel lived on the same hall as Tucker their freshman year. Rachel was a groomswomen in their wedding, which was so fun for me because we got to carpool and hang out at various points during the day!
I don’t think I’ve ever shot at a more naturally-beautiful wedding venue. The arboretum’s grounds are covered in Japanese Maples and the mansion itself is made of assorted sand-colored stone surrounded by statues and seasonal flowers.
Heather & Tucker both got ready in the mansion before the ceremony. Heather and her ladies sipped mimosas in matching robes while getting their hair and makeup done, and Tucker gifted his groomsmen (and woman) customized flasks.
We wanted to take full advantage of the venue’s natural setting, so Heather asked me to take photos of her dress in the maple trees outside as well as in the bridal suite. The suite had floor-to-ceiling windows that looked like they were made for dress detail shots. These are some of my favorite wedding dress shots to date – both Heather and her dress were amazing! I LOVED her off-the-shoulder lace sleeves!
Guests arrived in the late afternoon and they had a beautiful ceremony in the courtyard of the arboretum followed by a southern-style buffet dinner and tented reception.
Their reception got fun fast!
Tucker made a handpicked playlist for the occasion, and he did a good job because there was a congo line kicking their way through the tent less than ten minutes after opening the dance floor. Later on, one of Tucker’s groomsmen danced so hard to the Backstreet Boys that he ripped his rented pants straight down the middle.
Tucker’s mom handed out homemade cookies at the end of the evening – Rachel and I can attest to how good they were because we finished an entire pack on the car ride home. There was so much laughing, dancing and love on their wedding day, it was sad to see it come to an close.
The forecast called for an 80-100% chance of heavy rainstorms for the entire wedding day, so it is still unbelievable to me that we got through the whole thing without rain!! As soon as the last song finished and people began to leave, the clouds opened up and the entire Baltimore area was covered monsoon-like storms for the next two days straight. The timing was incredible.
Heather & Tucker, it was so much fun photographing your wedding, thank you so much for asking me to join in your celebration! I hope these photos bring memories back for years to come – see you both again soon!
And a big thank you to the rest of their wedding day team!
