Whew! The first thing that comes to mind to describe this year’s lavender portrait season is…holy rain!!!
This was my fourth season holding Field & Farm sessions at Seven Oaks Lavender Farm in Catlett, Virginia, and it was by far the most challenging. Between our super cold Spring and wet start to Summer, both the plants and the sessions suffered. To put it into perspective, usually by the end of June I have finished shooting portrait sessions and I’m heavily into the editing process. This year, I only had about 1/4 of the sessions complete, so we carried them all the way through the beginning of August to fit in rain cancellations. I have never seen such angry skies and heavy storms at the farm. And we weren’t alone. Many of the farms in the area experienced similar struggles.
That being said, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, to all of the amazing families and couples who came out and stayed flexible with us for this year’s portraits. In between storms, we had so many gorgeous mornings and evenings and a successful first-annual Summer Bloom Fest. I think the photos from this year turned out the best yet!
This is one of my all-time favorite locations to shoot at because of the wide variety of backdrops the farm has to offer, its location set amongst varied flowers and rolling countryside, and how beautifully the lavender frames families, couples and dogs alike. Choosing my favorite images from the season is a difficult task, but here goes! Scroll down to see both season and Festival mini favorites from 2018!
