Ellen & David  |  The Barn at Edgewood  |  Standardsville, VA

Ellen and David were my first wedding of the 2018 season and I’m so excited to share a few images from their special day!

I hadn’t seen these two since we took engagement photos over a year ago at a local Fredericksburg farm. Ellen is one of the most laid-back brides that I have worked with during the planning process, and both her and David’s relaxed and fun attitude on the wedding day made photographing them so much fun. Their wedding was on June 9 at the Barn at Edgewood in Stanardsville, VA – about 1.5 hours west of Fredericksburg. As I pulled into the drive that day, I was immediately struck by the gorgeous views and rolling mountains surrounding the venue. It was breathtaking! Both the ceremony and reception took place on the grounds that day – and they had getting-ready rooms above the reception space – so everything was all in the same place!

We spent the early afternoon shooting details and getting-ready shots. Ellen had the most beautiful homemade bouquets made of eucalyptus and hydrangea. She wore a family heirloom necklace and stunning lacy dress as her “something old, something new”. Her “something blue” was a delicate little blue tag on the inside of her dress. And I had NO idea the tradition typically ends with “and a sixpence in your shoe”, so I was sure to shoot details of the penny as well!

They were calling for scattered showers throughout the day – and they came at a perfect time right between Ellen & David’s first look and the start of the ceremony. After the storm, we had a characteristic sunny summer evening, it was especially beautiful during their sunset photos. They had an elegant ceremony beside the pond on the barn’s grounds, followed by cocktail hour and formal portraits. We ended the evening with speeches, cake cutting and lots of dancing…and I was able to capture the car decorating on my way out!

Such a perfect evening for Ellen and David. They were surrounded by so much love from their family and friends, and the Barn at Edgewood provided a perfect location for their celebration. Thanks again Ellen & David – I hope you are enjoying your first few months of married life!
